A Beginner’s Guide to Revit and Key Shortcuts

In Revit, certain shortcut keys are reserved for specific functions and do not appear in the “Assign” list within the “Shortcut” dialog box.

To view all reserved shortcut keys, set the “Filter” to “Keep All” in the “Shortcut Keys” dialog box. Within the displayed list, reserved shortcut keys are shown in gray and are enclosed in angle brackets.

Shortcut Description
Ctrl+F4 Closes the currently open project.
Tab key Cycles through options or selections for adjacent or connected elements.
Shift+Tab Cycles through options or selections for adjacent or connected elements in reverse order.
Shift+W Opens the SteeringWheels tool.
Esc key Cancels the placement of graphic elements. Press the Esc key twice to exit the current editor or tool.
F1 key Opens the online help documentation.
F10 Displays key prompts.
Enter key Confirms and executes the current operation.
Spacebar Flips the selected element, changing its orientation.
