How to Set Standard Rectangular Duct Side Length Specifications in Revit
Revit software allows for flexible design sizes of air ducts, as they can be processed and manufactured on site. However, to ensure standardized processing and installation, rectangular ducts typically follow commonly used side length specifications. The default duct sizes in the template file might differ from the standard sizes preferred by the user. Therefore, users often want to restrict their designs to only standard sizes and avoid non-standard parts.
Step 1:
Go to the Management tab and click on MEP Settings. In the Mechanical Settings dialog, select Duct Settings. Under the Rectangle section on the right, you will see a list of available side length sizes for rectangular ducts in the current project file. See Figure 1-1 for reference.
Step 2:
Choose any size you want to remove and click Delete Size. In the confirmation dialog box that appears, click Yes to confirm. Refer to Figure 1-2.
If the size you want to delete has already been used in the project, a warning dialog titled Deleting Duct Size will appear. You can still proceed with the deletion, and existing ducts with that size will remain unchanged until you manually update them.
Step 3:
Besides deleting unnecessary sizes, you can add new duct sizes that are not listed. Click New Size in the Duct Size dialog, enter the desired side lengths of the rectangular duct, and click Confirm. See Figure 1-3 for an example.
Step 4:
Repeat Steps 2 and 3 until you have fully customized the duct size list to include only the standard sizes you want to use. This ensures your project uses common and standardized duct side lengths. See Figure 1-4 for the final list.
