How to Export DWG Files from Revit
Once your modeling is complete, you may need to export your floor plans or detailed samples as DWG files. Here’s how you can do this in Revit:
The steps are as follows:
1. Go to Start > Export > CAD Formats > DWG, as shown in the image below.
2. In the DWG Export window, click on the Select Export Settings button, as illustrated below.
3. In the Modify DWG/DWF Export Settings window, adjust the layer options to map model categories and export the corresponding layer names and colors in the DWG file, as shown in the figure below.
4. Under the General tab, uncheck Export views and links on the sheet as external references. Then, select the DWG version for saving (it is recommended to choose an older version for better compatibility). After configuring, you can save these settings in the left panel for future use, as shown below.
5. After confirming, return to the DWG Export window. On the right side under Export, choose the view or sheet you want to export, or create a view set to export multiple sheets simultaneously. Then click Next to proceed to options, as shown below.
6. In the Save to Target Folder dialog box, specify the location and filename for the exported file, then click OK. Your file will be exported successfully, as shown in the following image.
Note: The export will include everything visible in the view, including linked Revit models and linked CAD files. If there are elements you do not wish to export, make sure to manage them in advance.
