A Step-by-Step Guide to Drawing Elliptical Walls in Revit

How to Draw Elliptical Walls in Revit

During both learning and project practice, we occasionally encounter elliptical floor slabs and walls. In Wall Painting in Revit, the wall tool does not provide an ellipse option, although the floor slab tool does. Therefore, creating an elliptical wall directly is not possible.

We have attempted to use CAD base drawings as reference lines, but after testing, we found that walls cannot be created by picking elliptical lines from CAD or reference lines.

Here is a step-by-step method to create elliptical walls:

  1. Create a new internal building mass and give it a name.
  2. Use the pick lines tool to select the elliptical shape from the CAD base drawing. Choose the elliptical outline, then create a solid form to complete the mass. See the illustration below.
  3. Next, use the wall pick tool to select the outer edge of the mass and generate the elliptical wall, as shown in the image below.
  4. Finally, delete the mass, leaving the elliptical wall intact.
