How to Easily Create Connected Bathroom Fixtures in a Family Using Revit
When working with Revit, I often encounter bathroom fixtures that are difficult to connect to piping. To help with this, I have created this guide to simplify the process.
1. First, select the bathroom fixture you want to edit within the family library file; for example, the “M-Sink – Independent – Single Sink,” as shown below.
2. In the Project Browser, navigate to ‘Facade (Facade 1)’ and open the ‘Right’ view in the middle pane. Select the rightmost reference plane in this view. Under “Properties,” rename this plane in Chinese to indicate it’s for wall installation, as illustrated.
3. Still in the Project Browser, open ‘Facade (Facade 1)’ and then the ‘Below’ view. Using the “Create” tab, select “Reference Plane” and draw two horizontal reference planes.
4. Add dimensions between these new reference planes and the reference elevation. Select the upper dimension, click “Add Parameters…”, and create a type parameter named “From water inlet to top.” Repeat the process for the lower dimension, naming it “From drainage outlet to top.” See the image for reference.
5. Under the “Create” tab, select the “Work Plane” tool. In the pop-up window, choose the middle option and set the reference plane to “Wall Installation” as the new work plane, as shown.
6. Create a circular stretch point at the center of the reference plane, then click “Confirm,” as depicted in the image.
7. Open the 3D view and delete the existing cold water, hot water, and drainage connectors. Then reposition the connectors according to the diagram.
8. Select each connector and assign the appropriate pipeline parameters.
9. Open the “Family Parameters” dialogue box. Set the installation tool parameters for “From water inlet to top” and “From drainage outlet to top,” as shown. Save the file and click “Load into Project” to use the updated family.
10. You can also create a storage space for the water tank. In the Project Browser, open the ‘Right’ view under ‘Facade (Facade 1).’ Set the work plane to “Center (left/right),” as illustrated.
11. In the “Create” tab, select “Model Line” and draw a layout path using line and arc tools. Connect one end to the sink drain and the other to the drainage connector. Check the box to finish editing the path, as shown.
12. Click “Select Contour,” then “Edit Outline.” Navigate to the “View” tab, select “Floor Plan: Reference Plan,” and click “Open View,” as seen in the image.
13. Draw a circle centered on the designated point. Confirm by clicking the checkmark, then click the checkbox again to complete the layout editing, as demonstrated below:
