How to Configure Parent and Sub Regulations in Revit

How to Set Parent and Sub Regulations in Revit

In Revit, regulations refer to the organization of functional areas within the Project Browser based on the plan, such as 01 Plan, 02 Drawing, 03 3D View, 04 Elevation, and so on. Regulations include both parent regulations and sub regulations, where sub regulations serve as branches created under the main regulations.

For this project, we will use the XXX electromechanical samples as templates to build our model. The regulations and sub regulations have already been set up in the View Browser. Within the Properties palette, you can find the text columns labeled Parent Regulations and Sub Regulations. Below are the steps to configure the hierarchical structure of parent and sub regulations.

1. Go to the Manage tab and select Project Parameters.

2. In the Project Parameters dialog box, click Add to create two new parameters named: View Classification – Child and View Classification – Parent.

3. In the Parameter Properties dialog, set the following:
    – Parameter Type: Select Shared Parameter
    – Under Parameter Data:
Name (N): View Classification – Parent
        Group (D): Public
        Type (T): Text
        Group Under (G): Graphics
    – In Category (C), select the filter list below and check the box in front of “Graphics.”
Repeat the same steps for View Classification – Child.

4. Navigate to User Interface, then select Browser Organization.

5. In the Browser Organization dialog, click New (N) and create a name, for example, Yi Ebi.

6. Click Edit to open the Browser Organization Attributes dialog. Under Grouping and Sorting, set the following grouping conditions:
    – Group by (G): View Classification – Parent
    – Then by (B): View Classification – Child
    – Then by (Y): Family and Type
For Sort by (D), select View Name and choose either Ascending or Descending order. Finally, click OK.

7. Return to the main Revit interface. You should now see the preliminary setup of parent and sub regulations reflected in the Project Browser.

8. Select any view name in the floor plan within the Project Browser, such as A_1F. In the Properties palette, enter the following values:
    – View Classification – Child: Modeling
    – View Classification – Parent: 01 Plan
Then click Apply to update.

9. Complete the organizational structure for all parent and sub regulations as illustrated in the figure.
