Quickly Align Imported CAD Drawings in Revit
Have you ever imported CAD drawings into Revit, only to find that Revit’s grid—the axis grid on the drawing—is not aligned parallel? This issue can be quite frustrating.
So, how do you align the grids properly? You might try using the Align command, but often Revit refuses to execute this operation. Alternatively, you might consider using the Rotate tool, but what if the angle between the grids is an irrational number? In that case, no matter how many degrees you input, you won’t be able to achieve perfect alignment.
Let me share a simple trick with you. By using just one Angle Dimension command, you can fix this alignment issue regardless of the angle difference. Follow these steps:
- Label one of the grids in both the Revit model and the imported CAD drawing with an angular dimension.
- Click on the imported CAD drawing, then select the angle dimension you just placed.
- Change the displayed angle value to “0” and press the Enter key.
This action will make the axis grids in both the drawing and the model parallel. Afterward, you can use the Align command to successfully align the grids.
