Adding Fill Styles in Revit
When creating detailed drawings, you might encounter situations where the default fill patterns or material section fills in Revit are insufficient.
For example, the scale of the fill pattern may not be appropriate, and unfortunately, the scale cannot always be adjusted to meet your specific needs, as shown in the image below.
In such cases, you can enhance your fill patterns in Revit by loading custom PAT files. To do this, use the method shown in the first or second image above to navigate to: New → Import.
Next, switch to your desktop using your system and keyboard shortcuts, and use the F3 search function to locate files with the .PAT extension.
If you have multiple drawing software installed on your computer, you can utilize the PAT files that come bundled with many of these programs.
If you only have Revit installed, you can still find PAT files included with the software.
And if you still cannot find the pattern you want, you can create your own PAT files using Photoshop or similar software.
Be sure to set the desired scale, which controls the density of the pattern in your detailed drawings. You can also assign a memorable ID to your new pattern for easy identification.
Finally, you can apply the custom fill style you need. For example, the concrete diagonal line pattern labeled “HJ” in the image below was imported by me and is associated with “Concrete – Plain Concrete.” As you can see, there is a noticeable difference in pattern density.
