A Beginner’s Guide to Essential MicroStation Functions

This article provides an overview of MicroStation’s key functions:

1. The Most Commonly Used Toolbars:

2. Toolbars within the Main Toolbox:

The main toolbox includes frequently used tools and toolbars. Icons with a small triangle in the bottom right corner indicate that additional related tools or sub-toolbars can be expanded.

In MicroStation, intelligent lines that connect elements are similar to PLINE lines in CAD, straight lines correspond to LINE lines in CAD, and streamline strings or curves are equivalent to SPLINE lines in CAD.

It is generally recommended to use intelligent lines for connecting elements rather than straight lines. The use of streamline strings is prohibited.

b. Disadvantage: You cannot discard unwanted operations once saved automatically (though the undo function can be used to reverse changes).

4.4 Application Storage Locations

a. Line type libraries are stored in the SYMB directory.

b. Unit libraries are located under the CELL directory.

c. Font library files reside in the SYMB directory.

d. Macros are saved in the MACROS directory.

e. MDL programs are found in the MDLAPPS directory.
