Issue Explanation:
Third-party software that modifies Windows file dialog boxes can interfere with Revit’s interaction with these dialogs. This interference often leads to program freezes or crashes.
Solution:
Identify any third-party software that modifies the Windows file dialog boxes.
If the program is running in a window, follow these steps to disable unnecessary startup projects using MSCONFIG:
1. Press the Windows key + R to open the Run dialog box. (The Windows key is located to the left of the Ctrl and Alt keys on your keyboard).
2. Type msconfig and press Enter.
3. In the General tab, if Normal Startup is not selected:
- a. Review each tab and note which items are currently selected or unselected.
- b. Select Normal Startup in the General tab.
4. Go to the Startup tab and click Disable All.
5. Then, open the Services tab. Check the box to Hide all Microsoft services, click Disable All, and then re-enable Autodesk licensing services. If present, also re-enable FLEXnet licensing services.
Important: If you use any hardware devices required to log in to the system (for example, an application number scanner), make sure to enable their associated services as well.
6. Click OK and restart Windows when prompted.
Note: After making changes in the Startup and Services tabs, the General tab will show Selective Startup. Once troubleshooting is complete, restore the system to its original startup state by selecting Normal Startup in the General tab. If the system does not boot correctly, revert the settings to their previous state.
Additional Information:
Users may experience issues where they can open external projects by double-clicking RVT files, but cannot use the Save As command.
The following applications have been reported to cause such issues. Uninstalling these may resolve the problem:
- Constant Guard (available free to Comcast customers)
- PC Backup
- HP Trust Circle
- Sync Dialog Box
- Druva InSync
If uninstalling these applications does not fix the issue, try the following:
1. Open the Run dialog (Windows key + R), type services.msc, and press Enter.
2. Locate the server service and verify that it is enabled and running.
