How to Indicate Pipe Fitting Elevations in Revit

For some non-sloping pipelines, it is sufficient to label only the offset elevation and pipe diameter. However, for gravity pipelines with slopes—especially those that are long and have multiple branches—it is essential to accurately label each pipe section to ensure proper construction according to the drawings. Below is an explanation of how BIM software, specifically REVIT, can be used to annotate the elevation of pipe fittings.

As shown in the image below, water pipes with multiple branches and long sloped sections require detailed and precise labeling.

In Revit, each section of a gravity pipeline needs to be labeled. This is typically done using tag families for information annotation. However, Revit’s pipe fitting tags do not support the “Offset” attribute, which means it is not possible to label the offset of individual pipe fittings. Instead, only the starting point offset of the pipeline can be used to annotate the elevation at the pipeline’s start.

To do this, add the “Start Offset” attribute to the pipeline marker label and set the appropriate unit.

Unfortunately, the pipeline marker does not include an endpoint offset attribute, so labeling the pipeline’s endpoint elevation is not possible.
