BIM Software Tip: Unable to Use Viewport Commands in AutoCAD
Issue:
When working within a viewport, some commands such as zoom and pan may not function properly. Additionally, the standard selection method might fail to select objects inside the viewport.
Cause:
This issue often occurs because the viewport is either locked or overlapping with multiple viewports, causing different viewports to be active simultaneously.
Solution:
1. Unlock the Viewport (if locked):
- Select the viewport.
- Open the Properties palette and check if the viewport is locked.
- If it is locked, change the “Display Locked” property from “Yes” to “No”.
2. Check for Overlapping Viewports:
- Double-click inside a viewport.
- Press CTRL + R to cycle through viewports until the correct one is active.
- Once the correct viewport is selected, a new UCS icon will appear, and commands like zoom and pan will start working again.
