How to Configure Browser Settings for Autodesk Vault 2015 Lite Client

BIM Software Tips: Autodesk Vault 2015 Simplified Client – Configuring Browser Settings

Before using the streamlined client, please make sure your browser meets the necessary requirements.

Note: Vault Workgroup requires a Vault Office license to use the Lite client. Vault Professional offers read-only access by default via the streamlined client, but a Vault Office license is needed for full read and write access.

Supported Web Browsers

The Autodesk Vault Thin Client is compatible with the following browsers:

Internet Explorer 8, 9, 10

Mozilla Firefox 18

Google Chrome 28

Apple Safari 6

Additionally, with the Autodesk Design Review (ADR) plugin installed, the Vault Thin Client supports viewing DWF files across all browsers. If the ADR plugin is not installed, DWF files will be downloaded instead of viewed.

Important Web Browser Settings

There are four key browser settings that impact the streamlined client’s functionality:

  • Cookies
  • Scripts
  • Pop-up windows
  • ActiveX Controls (Internet Explorer only)

Internet Explorer 8, 9, and 10

Enable Cookies

Go to Tools > Internet Options. In the dialog box, select the Privacy tab. Adjust the slider to allow cookies. Setting it to “Medium” is recommended, as it restricts but does not block first-party cookies.

Enable ActiveX Controls

In Internet Options, select the Security tab. Under ActiveX control settings, choose Enable. If you experience issues viewing DWF files after installing Autodesk Design Review, ensure Run ActiveX controls and plugins is enabled.

Allow Scripts and ActiveX on Your Computer

Still in Internet Options, go to the Advanced tab. Scroll to the Security section and check Allow active content to run in files on my computer. Click OK to confirm.

Enable Pop-up Windows

Pop-ups must be allowed for the streamlined client to work properly. Go to Tools > Internet Options > Privacy tab, then disable the pop-up blocker by unchecking Turn on Pop-up Blocker.

Mozilla Firefox 18

Enable Cookies

Navigate to Tools > Options > Privacy tab. Set Firefox will: to Remember history.

Allow Scripts

Go to Tools > Options > Content tab. Make sure Enable JavaScript is checked.

Enable Pop-up Windows

Under Tools > Options > Content, ensure Block pop-up windows is unchecked.

Google Chrome™ (latest version)

Allow Cookies

Click the menu Customize and Control Google Chrome > Settings. Scroll down and click Advanced. Under Privacy and security, set Allow all cookies.

Enable Pop-up Windows

In Settings > Advanced > Privacy and security, ensure pop-ups are allowed by adding exceptions or disabling pop-up blocking.

Apple Safari 6

Allow Cookies

Go to Edit > Preferences > Security. Under Accept Cookies, select Only from sites I visit.

Enable JavaScript

In the same Security tab, check Enable JavaScript.

Allow Pop-up Windows

Ensure the Block pop-up windows option is unchecked in Edit > Preferences > Security.
