AutoCAD Fails to Create Objects: Common Issues and Solutions

BIM Software Tip: AutoCAD Cannot Create Objects

If you encounter errors in specific graphics, the file might be corrupted. For guidance on repairing and cleaning damaged AutoCAD files, please refer to the related repair article.

To insert an OLE object as a new file, avoid browsing and selecting it directly. For example, to insert an OLE image:

1. Open the image in Microsoft Paint.

2. Press CTRL + A to select the entire image.

3. Right-click and choose Copy (or press CTRL + C).

4. In AutoCAD, type INSERTOBJ and press Enter.

5. Select From New.

6. Choose the Paintbrush bitmap image file and click OK.

The drawing will open. Right-click and select Paste (or press CTRL + V).

Save the image, and it will now be inserted into your AutoCAD drawing.

If you are working with an image, it’s generally better not to insert it as an OLE object. Instead, attach it as an external reference.

To do this:

1. Type EXTERNALREFERENCE and press Enter to open the External Reference Manager.

2. Click the dropdown menu at the top of the first icon.

3. Select Attach Image.

4. Browse to and select the desired image.

5. Set your preferred insertion options, such as insertion point, scale, and rotation angle (or specify these on the screen).
