BIM Software Tip: How to Align CAD Grids with Revit Project Grids
When linking a CAD file with a Revit project, you might notice that the CAD grid does not align with the Revit project grid. In this case, you need to use the Align command to properly align the grids. While this is a basic task, sometimes simply using the Align command does not achieve the desired alignment. Here’s a straightforward solution:
If the CAD grid is angled relative to the Revit project grid, the Align command alone cannot align the CAD grid, as shown in the image below:
To fix this, use the Angle Dimension Annotation tool. You can find this command either under the Annotation tab or in the Modify panel, as illustrated below:
Activate the Angle Dimension Annotation tool, then click on the CAD grid and the corresponding Revit project grid one after the other. After that, select the CAD grid (make sure it’s the CAD grid, not the Revit grid) and set the angle value to 0, as demonstrated here:
Once you have corrected the angle, you can use the Align command to align the vertical grid accurately.
