BIM Software Tip: Importing Revit Models into Ecotect Analysis
When importing a Revit model into Ecotect Analysis, it’s important to understand how to simplify the model using .dxf and gbXML files.
Utilize the Visibility/Graphic Overrides menu in Revit to hide or turn off unnecessary elements that are not needed in Ecotect Analysis. This step reduces the complexity and file size of the exported .dxf file, making the model easier to work with within Ecotect Analysis.
We recommend simplifying your Revit model for all analyses that involve exporting files in gbXML format.
Ecotect Analysis is a design-phase tool that helps designers make decisions regarding building orientation, floor thickness, and massing. At this stage, the BIM model should be simplified—essentially a solid model with some interior layouts indicating zones for air conditioning or daylight exposure.
During the design phase, BIM models often contain excessive information that is unnecessary for sustainable design analysis. Including this redundant data complicates the analysis without improving its accuracy.
