BIM Software Tips: Essential Revit Knowledge
When using Revit’s Copy or Move commands, you can replicate AutoCAD’s orthogonal behavior by holding down the Shift key. This restricts the movement or copying of selected elements to horizontal or vertical directions only.
Holding the Shift key also quickly toggles the “Constraint” option in the options bar. The screenshot below demonstrates holding Shift while copying a pipeline.
Building on the previous article about skillfully using the Ctrl key:
For commands like Move, Copy, Mirror, Rotate, and Offset:
- Hold the Shift key to check or uncheck the “Constraint” option in the options bar.
- Hold the Ctrl key to check or uncheck the “Copy” option in the options bar.
When you select an element in the drawing area and the move cursor appears, pressing both Shift and Ctrl simultaneously will toggle these options accordingly.
