BIM Software Tip: Summary of New MEP Features in Revit 2015 (18)
Pipeline Offset Connection
While exploring Revit 2015, some new features were discovered that were not mentioned in the official software release notes. Additionally, hidden features documented only in the help files will be gradually uncovered and shared by Xiao Z.
One notable addition in version 15 is the new sub-panel for pipeline drawing: the Offset Connection.
This panel provides commands to control how pipes connect when there is a height difference between their endpoints.
For vertical connections, you can use the “Add Vertical” method and disable the slope option.
When the slopes of both the upstream and downstream pipe sections are set to zero, the pipeline remains horizontal. After selecting the endpoints of the two pipes with the mouse, the connection will look like this:
If a sloped connection is needed, choose the “Change Slope” method, then select a downward slope and specify any slope value you prefer.
In this scenario, the upstream and downstream pipes remain horizontal. To apply a downward slope, first click on the higher pipe endpoint, then click on the lower pipe endpoint. The resulting connection is illustrated below:
This feature allows precise control over how pipeline height changes are connected, eliminating the need to rely on vertical profiles.
