BIM Software Tip: How to Color DWF Pipes in Revit Models
Revit allows exporting 3D models in the DWF format. Although you can assign various colors through filters within Revit, these colors do not carry over when exporting to DWF. This happens because the software’s built-in mechanism only transmits colors based on the component’s material properties; colors applied via filters are not included in the export.
To retain colors in your DWF files, you need to employ some alternative techniques. Let’s explore how to achieve this.
Below is the original appearance of the HVAC room exported as a DWF file directly from Revit:
The process involves first exporting your model as an NWC file. Then, use the appearance configurator in Navisworks (NW) software to apply colors. Finally, export the colored model as a DWF from Navisworks. This workflow ensures the colors are preserved in the DWF file. Here is the resulting effect:
