BIM Software Tip: Quickly summarize and count the number of Revit doors and windows using Excel.
In Revit, the statistical data is typically presented vertically by floor, but we often need to display this information horizontally in a table, as illustrated below:
Start by creating a detailed schedule of doors or windows in Revit without aggregating the data. This schedule should list each individual instance, as shown in the image below.
Next, export this detailed schedule and open it in Excel. Remove any unnecessary columns to simplify the data, as demonstrated in the following image.
At this stage, Excel pivot tables become very useful.
First, select all the data, then go to the Insert tab and choose Pivot Table.
In the dialog box that appears, select whether to create the pivot table in a new worksheet or in an existing location within the current sheet.
Once the pivot table is created, simply drag and drop the relevant data fields into the appropriate areas to generate your counts, as shown below.
This way, the statistical chart for doors is quickly generated — quite efficient, isn’t it?
Moreover, if you export the detailed data for both windows and doors into the same Excel file and use a pivot table, you can create combined statistics for doors and windows in a single table.
