How to Fix Unexpected Crashes in Revit Software

BIM Software Tip: How to Fix Sudden Crashes in Revit

Sometimes, while working with Autodesk Revit, the software may unexpectedly crash and display an error message.

After a crash, a customer error report dialog typically appears. These errors often occur when drawing floors, moving elements, or scaling objects. The two most common error messages are:

1. “An unrecoverable error has occurred.”

2. “A fatal error has occurred. The application will be terminated.”

(Apologies for not providing a screenshot—most experienced users are already familiar with these messages.)

Solutions:

To reduce the frequency of these crashes, try the following steps:

1. Update your graphics card driver to the latest version available from the manufacturer’s website.

2. Disable hardware acceleration in Revit by going to Options > Graphics > Graphics Mode and unchecking “Use hardware acceleration (Direct3D).”
