BIM Software Tip: How to Set Project Units in Revit
Revit allows you to specify various display formats for project units, which affect how quantities appear both on-screen and in printed outputs. Formatting units properly is essential for accurate reporting and presentation. Follow these steps to set project units in Revit:
1. Click on the Manage tab, then go to the Settings panel and select Project Units.
2. In the Project Units dialog box, select the unit discipline you want to modify.
3. Click the Format button next to the unit type you want to change. This opens the Format dialog box where you can adjust how units are displayed.
4. Specify the desired Unit format if necessary.
5. Choose the appropriate value for Rounding. If you select Custom, enter the rounding increment in the text box provided.
6. Select the preferred Unit Symbol from the list.
7. Additional options you can configure include:
- Eliminate trailing zeros: When enabled, trailing zeros will not be shown (e.g., 123.400 will display as 123.4).
- Eliminate zero feet: Zero feet will be omitted in lengths (e.g., 0′ – 4″ will display as 4″). This applies to Length and Slope units.
- Show positive values with a plus sign (+): Displays positive numbers with a “+” prefix.
- Use digit grouping: When selected, digit grouping (e.g., thousands separators) and decimal point settings specified in Project Units will apply.
- Eliminate spaces: Removes spaces around feet and fractional inches (e.g., 1′ – 2″ will display as 1′-2″). This option is applicable for Length and Slope units.
8. Once all settings are adjusted, click OK to confirm your changes.
