BIM Software Tip: How to Set Up Stacked Walls in Revit
Stacked walls in Revit are a unique type of wall used when different thicknesses, materials, and construction layers need to be combined into one wall element.
Follow these steps to create a stacked wall:
1. On the ribbon, go to the Commonly Used tab, then find the Components panel. Click on Wall and select Building Wall.
2. In the Attributes panel, open the type selector and choose Stacked Wall. Then select Block Reinforced Brick Wall from the options below.
3. Click Edit Type to open the Type Properties dialog box. Make a copy of the stacked wall type to create a new one.
4. Open the Structure edit dialog within the copied type.
5. Click Insert to add a new layer. Use the Move Up command to position this layer at the top. From the Name dropdown list, select Composite Wall with Painted Bricks and Masonry.
6. Set the height for the second and third wall layers to 1500 and 900 respectively, leaving other parameters at their default values.
7. At the top of the dialog box, use the Offset dropdown to choose the vertical alignment of the wall. Click OK to save the settings and close the dialog box, completing the stacked wall creation.
8. To separate a stacked wall:
Select the stacked wall, right-click, and choose Disconnect. This will break the stacked wall into individual wall sections that can be edited independently. Note: Once disassembled, the stacked wall cannot be reassembled. Use Ctrl + Z immediately to undo this action if needed.
