BIM Software Tip: Revit <Cut Surface Contour> – Quickly Process Sections
In Revit, the Cut Profile tool is specifically designed to enhance section processing. When creating 3D components and cutting sections, the results are sometimes less than ideal. Overlapping areas may not display correctly, or unwanted lines might connect components, leading to complications. These issues can be challenging to resolve.
Today’s tip focuses on quickly refining 2D profile representations within sections:
1. The Cut Profile tool works directly on the section view. Before applying it, generate the section and add decorative lines to the wall as shown in the example. Use the same material as the surface layer for consistency.

2. Using the Cut Profile tool, select the construction layer where you want to add wall decorative strips. Note that the tool targets specific construction layers rather than the entire wall. Select the surface layer, then draw your lines carefully. Keep two important points in mind:
• The line cannot be closed; it must intersect with the selected construction layer.
• Arrows should face inward.

If both construction layers contain wall decorative strips, you’ll need to use the Face to Face option.
