BIM Software Tip: REVIT Display Constraints – Quickly Locate Constraint Objects
Revit 2016 has introduced significant updates, bringing many useful features that greatly enhance our productivity. Among these improvements is the new “Display Constraints” feature. Previously, constraints were invisible in the model, only appearing as a dialog box showing constraint conditions when dragging elements. Now, this feature allows us to quickly identify objects locked by constraints.
This feature has been added to the far right of the view control bar. To demonstrate, let’s draw two walls and lock them in place.
We noticed that the lock icon only appears when one of the constrained components is selected, indicating an active constraint. Now, by clicking on “Display Constraints”, you can see all constrained components in the view, including system families like floors and roofs constrained by drawn lines. In edit mode, constrained objects are shown in a faded tone; let’s take a closer look:
Constraints outside of edit mode are highlighted clearly, while those within edit mode appear grayed out.
