BIM Software Tip: How to Export a Revit Parts List to an Excel Document
Revit does not support directly exporting schedule tables to Excel files. Instead, it can export schedules only in TXT format. However, this TXT file can be opened in Excel and saved as an XLS spreadsheet. Using the building example from Revit 2013, here is how to export a schedule table to XLS format.
First, generate a door schedule in Revit and switch to the schedule view. Note that exporting to TXT is only available in schedule views; this option is not accessible from other views. Next, click the menu in the upper-left corner of Revit, then select Export > Report > Detailed Table.
Choose your save location, and the Export Detailed Table Settings dialog box will appear. Here, you can decide whether to include the header in the export. It is recommended to leave the output options unchanged. You can also set the field separators and text qualifiers. Changing these from the default settings may cause Excel to misinterpret the TXT file. For example, if you set the field separators to spaces, software like WPS may fail to recognize the TXT file as an Excel-compatible spreadsheet.
When opening the exported TXT file in Excel, you might see a prompt—simply confirm it. Then save the file as an XLS document to obtain your Excel spreadsheet version of the schedule. Alternatively, some Revit plugins can export schedules directly to Excel format. Most of these plugins are in English and may not be very user-friendly. For example, the plugin WhiteFeet.RevitRibbonPanel offers the ability to export detailed tables directly to Excel.
