BIM Software Tip: How to Layout Pipelines Along Walls in Revit
When arranging pipelines, you might need to align them along a wall, maintaining a specific distance from the pipeline center to the wall center. In Revit MEP, this can be easily achieved by using the Place Pipe tool and setting the Correct options in the ribbon.
First, click on Correct. Then, set the Horizontal Offset parameter, which controls the distance. The parameters are illustrated in the figure below.
The Horizontal Offset defines the horizontal distance between the pipeline being drawn and the route specified by your cursor. For example, when selecting the wall centerline as the route, applying a Horizontal Offset of 1000mm results in the pipeline center being positioned 1000mm away from the wall center, as shown in the image below.
Summary:
1. This method also works for duct layout.
2. While this function is mainly for pipelines adjacent to walls, it can also be used with other reference elements such as pipelines and air ducts themselves.
3. To control the distance relative to the inside or outside of the pipeline instead of the centerline, adjust the Horizontal Alignment setting accordingly.
