How to Create Stairs with Varying Thickness Between Treads and Landing Surfaces in Revit

How to create stairs with different thicknesses between the stair run and platform surface layer in Revit

We are discussing the general process of BIM modeling. Sometimes, you may encounter situations where the thickness of the stair platform surface layer is greater than that of the stair run surface layer.

Follow these steps to adjust the thicknesses accordingly:

1. Open the type properties of the stairs and select the stair run type to modify. Check the options for the tread and riser surfaces, then adjust the thickness as needed. Click OK to apply the changes.

2. You will notice that the thickness of the stair run surface layer has been updated accordingly.

3. Next, open the type properties of the staircase again and select the platform type for editing. Uncheck “Same as the staircase”, check “Tread”, and modify the tread thickness. Click OK to save the changes.

4. Now, the thickness of the platform surface layer will be different from the stair run surface layer, reflecting the desired variation.
