How to Use Revit's Combine Feature to Import NW Files and Create Assemblies

BIM Software Tip: Importing Revit Groups into Navisworks—Using the Create Component Command

When groups created in Revit are imported into Navisworks (NW), the group information is typically lost. However, a useful workaround has been discovered: by creating components in Revit before import, Navisworks can recognize and preserve them.

To do this, select the elements you want to group and use the Create Component command instead of grouping. For example, name the component Structural Foundation 001.

Once imported into Navisworks, go to the selection tree and under Properties > Element, you will see the component you named earlier. This confirms that the component information has been retained.

On the other hand, the original Group data from Revit does not appear in Navisworks, and so far, it has not been found. If anyone has discovered a method to preserve Group information, your input would be appreciated.
