BIM Software Tip: How to Fix Garbled Text When Opening CAD Drawings
1. When opening a multi-layered CAD file online, you might encounter numerous garbled characters such as “;????” or similar symbols.
2. Don’t panic. Click on the Format menu to open the text style editor. In the dialog box that appears, click New to create a new text style. You can name it “123” or any other name you prefer. Then, check the box below the font name to enable the font settings. Select a large font size. At this stage, the previously greyed-out Font Style option becomes editable. Choose the font named “gbcbig.shx”. Set the font size to 70, then click OK to apply the changes.
3. Go back to the main interface and click the A icon on the drawing toolbar. Enter multiple lines of text in the drawing area; for example, type “asdffg” (the exact text doesn’t matter). Next, use the Match Properties command (shortcut key: MA). Click on the text you just created (“asdffg”), and a brush cursor will appear. Use it to “paint” over the garbled characters in the drawing. This action will reveal the original text in the new font style and size, which you can easily adjust by enlarging or reducing it as needed.
