BIM Software Tip: How to Retrieve CAD Base Maps
When opening a CAD drawing, you might notice numerous references or connections within the file, and some base maps may not be immediately visible. If you’re unsure where these base maps are located, here are two effective ways to retrieve them:
1. Method One: Take the example below: the upper drawing contains a base map, while the lower drawing does not. Press the shortcut key “ER”. This will open a dialog box where you’ll see an exclamation mark indicating a broken reference.
Click on the drawing you want to recover, then drag the dialog box downward to reveal the file path.
Next, click the solution path on the right side, which will open another dialog box. From here, select the base map you need to restore.
2. Method Two: Copy all the required base map files, then open the folder containing the drawings that are missing the base maps. Once the necessary files are in place, the base maps should reappear automatically in your CAD drawings.
