BIM Software Tip: Revit Structural Framework Family Template Description
This template is used for drawing beams and supporting components based on two points. The family templates provided by the system include many reference planes that determine various behavioral properties of the components.
Frame templates differ from regular templates because many reference planes have special properties. Therefore, extra attention is needed when creating families. In the plan view, you will find the following reference planes:
1. Left/Right: When selecting a geometric shape, a blue area appears to control the length of the structural framework.
2. Member Left/Member Right: These represent the physical edges of the geometric shape and control the shear length of the structural framework.
3. Single Line Symbol Left/Single Line Symbol Right: When the family reference symbol representation is set to “From the clan,” these control the length of the single line symbol.
When creating a beam family, it is especially important to ensure that the endpoints of the beam path are aligned and locked to the “Rod Left” and “Rod Right” reference planes.
