A Fast Method for Verifying Subcategories of Family Components

BIM Software Tip: A Quick Method to Check Subcategories of Family Components

After creating a 3D family in Revit, it’s important to verify whether the subcategories of each component are correctly classified. Here, we introduce a simple and efficient method to do so.

The main idea is to assign different colors to each component, allowing you to quickly confirm whether the colors are accurately represented within the model space.

Follow these steps:

1. Click the Management button, then select Object Styles. This will open a dialog box, as shown in Figure 1.

2. In the dialog box, locate the Valve Body under the Line Color column, and change its color from black to red. Then, change the Valve Handwheel color to green for clear distinction. After making these changes, click the Apply button.

3. Return to the 3D view and check if the model edges have updated to the new colors.
