How to Align Free-Form Geometric Primitives in Inventor

BIM Software Tip: How to Align Free-Form Geometric Primitives in Inventor

Use the “Align Shape” feature to precisely reposition your model by aligning the source symmetry plane or vertex with the target plane.

To access this tool, go to the “Free Style” tab, then the “Edit” panel, and click “Align the Shape”.

Before selecting the baseline geometry, follow one of these steps:

If your entity has defined symmetries and you want to use the symmetry plane as the reference, enable the “Symmetrical Plane” option.

If the entity does not have defined symmetry or you prefer to use vertices as reference points, enable the “Vertex” option instead.

Next, select the reference vertex or reference plane.

If needed, select the target plane or flat surface, and reverse the direction as required.

Finally, click “Confirm” to apply the alignment.
