BIM software Tip: How to Reset AutoCAD to Default Settings
Reason: Most AutoCAD features rely on values loaded from configuration files and registry entries. Resetting AutoCAD to its default settings can restore the program to its original state.
Solution: Each user account on your system has its own AutoCAD settings. Resetting to default values will only affect the currently active user account. To reset settings for a different account, you must first log in as that user.
For most AutoCAD versions 2012 and later (including AutoCAD-based products), the reset utility can be found in the Windows Start menu under the AutoCAD program group. The reset utility also offers an option to back up your settings before proceeding. Once the reset is complete, AutoCAD will automatically launch along with the auxiliary installation program.
Windows 7:
Go to the Start menu > All Programs > Autodesk > AutoCAD 201x > Reset Settings to Default.
Windows 8:
Click the Windows button to open the Start screen.
Right-click at the bottom of the screen.
Click the down arrow to view all installed applications.
Under the AutoCAD section, click Reset Settings to Default.
Windows 8.1:
Click the Windows button to open the Start screen.
Scroll down and click the down arrow to access all installed applications.
Under the AutoCAD section, select Reset Settings to Default.
Windows 10:
Click Start menu > All Applications > AutoCAD 201x > Reset Settings to Default.
Note: For AutoCAD 2016, the reset utility is located under the Autodesk folder in the Start menu.
