Tea Mountain and the surrounding tea fields are the primary tourist attractions and vital economic hubs for the villagers of Changdai. Through comprehensive planning and landscape design, these areas are evolving into art installations and rural style exhibitions that blend seamlessly with the mountains, water, and fields.

A tea pavilion was constructed atop Xishan Mountain, one of the two Tea Mountains, complementing the original thatched pavilion on Dongshan Mountain. This pavilion aims to provide a resting spot for tea pickers, a viewing platform for visitors, and a striking landmark within the rural landscape.

The pavilion’s design draws inspiration from the common shading structures used in tea fields, typically featuring a “steel pipe frame with sunshade gauze.” Emulating this, the pavilion is built with a mountain-shaped light steel frame skeleton, covered by a detachable white sunshade canopy. This economical and temporary design offers tea farmers a comfortable resting place atop the mountain.

The pavilion’s main structure is a modular frame made from light steel, divided into three sections. The design forms a mountain-like silhouette with a higher center and lower sides, creating spaces for walking in the middle and resting areas on either side.

The main frame is elevated off the ground and topped with anti-corrosion wooden flooring, giving it a floating appearance. On both sides, it connects to the Tea Mountain Trail via short corridors and steps.

The modular framework integrates steel wire mesh and anti-corrosion wood, creating fences for visitors to lean on and benches for rest. The structure also frames the natural features of the rural settlements and mountain pavilions located to the north, east, and west, enhancing the visitor experience.

The light gray steel frame blends into the sky, while the white sunshade cloth, stretched diagonally beneath the frame, evokes the image of the pavilion floating atop the Tea Mountain. This design element traces the natural rolling silhouette of the mountain range and tea fields.

Compared with the charming atmosphere of the thatched pavilion atop Dongshan Mountain, the tea pavilion respects the native rural construction style while also responding to the modern sculptural forms found among the tea fields at the mountain’s base. Together, they portray a contemporary rural aesthetic where tradition and art intersect.

Since its completion, the tea pavilion has become a popular spot for villagers to walk their dogs, a gathering place for tea farmers to relax and socialize, and a scenic stop for tourists. This pavilion, perched atop Tea Mountain, has successfully integrated into the rural lifestyle of Changdai Village and become a memorable highlight of contemporary rural life.
