Fufeng New City is a pivotal area in Shexian County’s “Westward Expansion Strategy” and serves as the primary link between the ancient city of Huizhou and the realization of the “dual core drive.” Situated at the heart of Fufeng New City, the Huizhou Culture and Art Exchange Center boasts a prime location. It plays a vital role in enhancing the new city’s public service functions while showcasing modern Huizhou’s unique style.
Looking ahead, the center will collaborate closely with nearby facilities—including existing outlets, planned sports centers, and star-rated hotels—to invigorate the modern commercial district with culture and art. This integration aims to expand cultural and tourism spaces, creating a new urban form that deeply intertwines culture and tourism with diverse and inclusive experiences.
Huizhou culture is a regional tradition marked by distinctive local characteristics and a rich, profound heritage. It offers deep insights into Eastern society and culture, encompassing the essential aspects of folk economy, society, life, and culture during China’s later feudal period. Recognized as a quintessential example of this era, Huizhou culture has been studied for over fifty years and is regarded as one of China’s three major local cultural schools with global influence, alongside Dunhuang Studies and Tibetan Studies.

The project is located in the Fufeng New City area, within the central urban zone of Shexian County. It spans 22,976.94 square meters with a total construction area of 44,000 square meters. Currently, the site is vacant and borders Xin’an Road and Binhong Avenue, a planned main urban road. Large-scale development of the new city is still underway.
To the southwest, a library and archives are planned, while a star-rated hotel is slated for the northeast. Nearby, a big data cloud computing center is under construction. Existing outlets and the Huitou Building have already been completed and are operational.

The Huizhou Culture and Art Exchange Center is envisioned as a cultural landmark embodying Huizhou’s heritage—a cultural and tourism hub driven by the synergy between hosts and guests, and an artistic space offering diverse experiences.
Its core functions will emphasize public services, scene operations, and experiential consumption. The center will feature cultural and art theaters, Huizhou art exhibitions, artist studios, art training and exchange programs, multifunctional lecture halls, cultural and creative businesses, and more—establishing itself as a new cultural destination in Huizhou.

We anticipate the future evolution of Huizhou culture, highlighting its dazzling elements—from Mount Huangshan and Huizhou architecture to calligraphy, painting, opera, and ink stones. This project aims to present a refreshed cultural and artistic exchange platform that honors local traditions while embracing forward-looking symbols that resonate with Huizhou’s identity.

The building rises prominently within the cityscape, reminiscent of rolling mountains and the flowing sleeves of Huizhou opera. It stands as a bridge between the enduring Huizhou culture and a future embraced with renewed spirit.

The façade features aluminum circular tubes, whose soft interplay of light and shadow across the curved surfaces evokes the texture of ink paintings, perfectly aligning with the aesthetic sensibility of Huizhou culture.

Surrounded on three sides by water, the building’s undulating façade is beautifully reflected on the water’s surface, creating a harmonious dialogue between architecture and nature.

The interior theater space draws inspiration from water sleeves and ribbons, mirroring the gestures of stage performers and creating an immersive, cohesive atmosphere.
