To revitalize public life in Harpa de Méndez, Tabasco, the city’s most iconic public spaces were updated as part of the urban master plan designed for SEDATU. This includes the multifunctional sports center and the Manuel Vargas Isquiedo baseball stadium.

A covered walkway connects these venues, ensuring pedestrian safety and offering a dynamic space for sports and entertainment activities.

The multifunctional sports center features renovated courts and service areas, alongside a new building housing basketball courts, volleyball courts, and rooms for karate and judo practice. Additionally, the outdoor area includes a skateboard park and a children’s playground.

The sports center is designed with a practical, repetitive modular structure. Supported by exposed concrete columns, the steel-frame roof provides shaded and open areas, enabling users to engage in activities comfortably regardless of weather conditions.

The Manuel Vargas Izquiedo baseball stadium features ten exposed concrete umbrella-shaped structures. These are visually and structurally supported by tubular tension members, providing shade over the stands. A lateral ramp offers barrier-free access throughout the stadium.

The project incorporates orange concrete, reflecting the limestone color of the main arch in the historic center of Halpa de Méndez. The design also accounts for the region’s hot climate by preventing water vapor accumulation.
Furthermore, sustainability is prioritized through natural ventilation systems and rainwater collection and reuse facilities throughout the project.
