The 2024 Anaya Drama Festival has officially launched. Following the success of 2023, MAD architect Ma Yansong has once again designed the “2024 Migratory Bird Sand City,” a temporary installation lasting only 300 hours. This public art project, titled “Migratory Bird 300,” offers a vibrant and imaginative experience for visitors.
In 2023, the Migratory Bird Sand City’s main structure resembled tribal totem enclosures. For 2024, the design has evolved by introducing roads that connect multiple independent settlements. This dispersed layout mimics the growth of a city-state, offering artists and visitors greater freedom and clearer pathways throughout the space.
The 2024 Migratory Bird Sand City no longer focuses on fixed spatial structures. Visitors are free to move between various settlements, experiencing scenes that reflect daily life yet also detach from it at different times of the day.
Low walls subtly divide the space while guiding visitors toward directions and exits. Overlapping sightlines create dynamic interactions that fuel inspiration and creativity. People continuously create and observe, growing alongside the evolving city.
The rolling sand dunes take on natural forms shaped by human activity. Rough burlap flutters in the breeze, and the countdown timer on the city wall shines brightly. Here, nature, space, art, and human behavior merge seamlessly. Each captured moment is unique and irreplaceable.
Within this space, artists and visitors freely explore and create, collaboratively building a seaside utopia through pan-art cooperation.
“Migratory Bird 300,” initiated by Liu Chang, Zhu Sha, Zheng Jing, and Chen Minghao, uses the metaphor of migratory birds to bring together 300 creators from diverse fields and backgrounds. They gather in Anaya to live and create by the seaside for 300 hours, engaging in a dialogue that transcends time and space through their ongoing works.
From June 18th to June 30th, the “Migratory Bird Sand City” hosts over 300 artists presenting 135+ works and 240+ performances, ranging from installations and sculptures to performance art, paintings, and images.
