A retirement community functions like a small city. Beyond providing essential services such as medical care, caregiving, and daily lifestyle support, what else do seniors living here need? Taikang Home Yanyuan Phase III aims to offer a space where elderly residents can address their inner needs, break free from static environments, and embrace vitality and a youthful mindset through a more open and liberating atmosphere. Here, they can engage in social activities and acquire new skills.

Situated in the heart of Changping New City, Beijing, the project neighbors Baifuquan Wetland Park and Mangshan National Forest Park. Unlike the conventional architectural forms surrounding it, the Vitality Center features a lively, organic design. Inspired by a drop of water, it creates ripples that spread outward, rising from the center to form a white, soft cloud-like structure. This expansive, freeform roof harmonizes naturally with the environment. A connecting bridge directs towards Baifuquan Park to the west, fostering a seamless relationship between nature and architecture. The design integrates building and landscape both visually and functionally, using natural elements to invigorate community life.

The Vitality Center features a fitness center, dining facilities, a library, and a senior college, among other amenities, designed to cater to a variety of daily needs. The functional areas are carefully arranged around a central courtyard garden, creating a natural, relaxed, dynamic, and open spatial experience.

Above the courtyard lies the Four Seasons Flower Hall, featuring a skylight that allows residents to experience the natural changes of the seasons indoors. This green, sunlit space with flowing curves encourages free, comfortable social interactions.

The open rooftop garden, located under the large curved roof, spans three floors and provides an outdoor area for seniors to relax, exercise, and socialize daily. It is accessible via multiple elevators both inside and outside the building. The rooftop walkway extends westward, connecting seamlessly with Baifuquan Wetland Park and blending built and natural landscapes.

The building features a lightweight, irregularly curved roof made of a PTFE membrane structure, resembling floating clouds. The entrance is marked by a two-story glass curtain wall that brings natural surroundings inside while flooding the interior with daylight. The solid walls are clad with vertically segmented metal panels, adding rich texture and detail.
