If childhood were a field,
We would wish ‘Yuanxi’ to be a free paper airplane,
Breaking free from the constraints of dimensions, soaring straight upward—just like you, me, and a flock of paper airplanes meeting in the sky.
01 Preface
What kind of space can we create when reading embraces diversity, focuses on the present, and envisions the future? If design is a form of dreaming, then our hope is to build a place where every child can unleash their imagination—a field of hope, where ‘Yuanxi’ acts as a gentle gardener.
Our design centers on three core principles: uniqueness, engagement, and interactivity. We propose a “future library”—a new type of campus library that combines memory, comfort, and a futuristic vision.

Mountain Stream
Spaces intertwine seamlessly, creating endless visual continuity.
02 Invisible and Multiform

Morning sunlight filters softly through light clouds, warming the air in a suspended space. Paper airplanes drift slowly from the surrounding fields toward the courtyard, swaying gently in the breeze.

Each paper airplane carries a child’s childhood and dreams. The designer envisions this space as a place for reading, interaction, and fun. When children enroll for the first time, they write their dreams on a paper airplane, inviting them to actively enter the library, fall in love with it, and develop a sense of belonging.
03 Break Boundaries and Grow

Breaking through boundaries to give rise to endless possibilities—the original classroom space was transformed by removing walls and incorporating corridors. Inspired by mountain streams, a series of interconnected openings were created, achieving continuous visual flow.

04 Fluidity and Transformation
This project goes beyond designing physical spaces; it focuses on creating invisible connections between people.

△ Terraced Fields
As a school library, we carefully consider additional functions and how to maximize value within limited space—an essential challenge for any designer. Here, we have reserved a “field” for children to explore freely. When reading activities pause, this space transforms into a stage. The window-side booths serve not only as reading nooks but also as gathering spots for shared experiences.

△ Layout Plan
The design’s goal is to build a ‘field of hope’ that connects the entire building, breathing new life into its library. It bridges spaces, linking the past and future in a continuous cycle. The close relationships between areas within the bridge-like structure enhance the integrity of the overall creative concept.
