Situated on Langenalberstraße, the new fire station occupies a strategic location, uniting six previously independent fire units under one roof. The project embraces circular construction principles and sustainable planning, guided by the “Cradle to Cradle” philosophy.

The design concept focuses on separating and stacking functional layers, while making use of the site’s sloping terrain. This approach minimizes the sealed surface area and allows the building to blend seamlessly with the landscape. A large concrete base is embedded into the slope, with the north-facing facade opening towards the street.

The facility includes a fire truck garage, operational support spaces, storage rooms, and technical areas. Two courtyards on the open-air middle level provide views of the surrounding landscape. This level is accessible via an external ramp, which doubles as both parking and activity space. Above, a wooden structure clad in white expanded metal houses classrooms, offices, and shared spaces. The clear stacking of functional zones is visually expressed, giving the building a distinctive and memorable profile.

The building utilizes recyclable materials that contain minimal harmful substances and are designed for easy separation and reuse after dismantling. This makes them valuable sources of raw materials and sustainable resources for the future. As one of Germany’s first “Cradle to Cradle” certified buildings, the fire station is a pioneering example that sets a standard for sustainable development.
