The Tianguang Handwashing Hall is located within Slow Flash Park in Mentougou, Beijing. This independent, all-female restroom is thoughtfully designed to cater specifically to women and mother-and-baby groups.
Slow Flash Park, situated in the western suburbs of Beijing, is a new concept public space that integrates multiple functions. It hosts a variety of cultural and commercial events, including markets, forums, exhibitions, music, and theater performances.

The design features a winding wall that encloses various compartments, creating an irregularly shaped overall space. The central public area is lower, while the compartments on either side are elevated to allow better natural light penetration.
Entrances and exits in the public space are higher on the outer sides and lower on the inner sides, with the compartment heights adjusting accordingly. This variation in form clearly reflects changes in the interior floor plan and spatial height.
Additionally, recessed lighting is installed in the concave sections of the building, allowing for adjustable brightness that enhances the depth and texture of the walls.

The winding wall continues to shape the unique spatial experience, enhancing both form and function. The dynamic heights and varying light conditions create an inviting and thoughtfully crafted environment.

Inside, the walls, floors, and ceilings are finished with micro cement, which emphasizes the flow of light throughout the space.
The partition doors feature gradient screen-printed back-painted glass, creating a subtle contrast against the textured micro cement surfaces.
Notably, the top and bottom of the compartment doors remain unsealed, preserving visual continuity and spatial openness between the compartments and the surrounding area. This design fosters a sense of inclusiveness and transparency rather than isolation.

Architectural spaces should have the capacity to adapt and transform in response to their external environment.
Tianguang Handwashing Hall embodies this flexibility, with a design that softens its functional layout to establish a more diverse and harmonious relationship with its surroundings.
