The Tandorosti Bridge is a pedestrian and cyclist overpass spanning one of Tehran’s main highways, Sheikh Fazlollah Nuri, in Iran. It features a 180-meter-long bridge combined with a 90-meter ramp that extends into a linear park called Bagh-Raye-e Hemmat on one side. On the other side, it connects to Fadak Park and the main roundabout, Sanat Square, creating a continuous 4-kilometer pedestrian walkway.
This bridge represents a new urban planning approach in Tehran, aiming to reconnect neighborhoods divided by transportation infrastructure. It seeks to overcome the barriers imposed by vehicle routes on isolated communities and promote environmentally friendly transportation methods in one of the world’s most polluted metropolitan areas. The Tandorosti Bridge embodies this sustainable vision.

The design concept emphasizes creating a simple yet distinctive urban landmark. The ramps and surfaces of Tandorosti are crafted to be visually perceptible from the surrounding environment. The bridge is conceived as a unified sculptural entity rather than a collection of separate parts. To achieve this, its structural components are concealed within 120 x 40 mm hollow steel profiles.

To preserve the views of the green valleys beneath the highway and the nearby Alborz Mountains, 70% of the bridge deck is hollow, with only 30% enclosed. This effect is achieved by incorporating U-shaped profiles spaced every 15 centimeters, which act as handrails and simultaneously conceal the structural elements below the bridge deck.
These U-shaped profiles also cast dynamic shadows that change with time and seasons, adding a lively visual element to the bridge. To accentuate the feeling that the U-shaped profiles are suspended, a key design intent, all other parts of the bridge are painted dark gray, while the profiles themselves are white. This contrast creates a sense of lightness and purity, achieved without introducing any materials beyond paint.
