Back in 2017, the architect made a bold promise to the client: to create a “dissolved pixel wall” — a solid structure that would gradually dissolve into the air. At the time, they were confident in their vision, but had no idea of the challenges and trials that lay ahead.

Why create a wall that gradually disappears? The architect aimed to enhance privacy between neighbors while still allowing ample sunlight into the basement. Dissolving walls offered the perfect solution to achieve both privacy and natural light simultaneously.

Over the following years, the construction team invested countless hours developing patterns and building systems to fulfill this vision. However, translating this dream into reality within a limited budget proved nearly impossible. They realized that despite both starting with a “P”, physics and Photoshop are worlds apart.

The team persevered through numerous trials and doubts. The first site model was unstable, the second too heavy, and the third exceeded budget constraints. They faced many more challenges beyond these initial setbacks.
Finally, in August 2022, they succeeded. By late summer, the wall stood exactly as envisioned — solid yet gradually dissolving into the air.
