Autodesk, an American company, is the developer behind the Revit software series. Revit enjoys widespread use internationally and holds a significant market share in China. With the advancement of BIM technology, Revit has become a preferred choice for many design firms. On the other hand, ArchiCAD is developed by TuSoft, a company based in Hungary. ArchiCAD entered the domestic market as early as 2004. Both Revit and ArchiCAD are widely utilized in architectural design.
Hardware Requirements for Revit and ArchiCAD
Revit demands significantly higher hardware specifications compared to ArchiCAD, especially regarding the processor. For example, Revit 2021 requires at least 8GB of RAM (with 16-32GB recommended for handling large models), a 64-bit operating system, and 30GB of free disk space. It is also advised to use a CPU with the highest possible clock speed for optimal performance.
In contrast, ArchiCAD 23 requires a minimum of 8GB RAM (16GB for complex models), a 64-bit OS, and only about 5GB of disk space, with an additional 10GB recommended for complex models and 3D visualization projects. After installation, Revit 2021 occupies approximately 22GB of disk space, while ArchiCAD 23 requires roughly 3GB.
In practical scenarios, ArchiCAD often outperforms Revit in speed, especially when working with large building models. Revit tends to experience lag when handling sizable project files. Thanks to its lower hardware demands, ArchiCAD offers a smoother drawing experience and avoids performance bottlenecks caused by hardware limitations.
