Located on a complex sloped site with significant elevation changes and surrounded by high-rise residential buildings, Ankang High Tech Fifth Kindergarten embraces its natural environment. Inspired by terraced fields, the design incorporates layered setback platforms connected by outdoor stairs and children’s slides. This innovative approach integrates the ground-level playground with the rooftops of each floor, creating a seamless, three-dimensional outdoor activity space. Scattered throughout are various play facilities and lush plantings, fostering a joyful and natural environment for children’s growth.

The kindergarten’s main building is positioned on the southwest side of the site, opening up to a spacious outdoor activity area to the northeast. This layout optimizes shading for outdoor spaces and natural light inside, blending the architecture organically with the environment. The façade features a dynamic design with recessed and protruding sections that create engaging micro-spaces. Multiple slides connect the stacked outdoor platforms, providing a playful and stimulating mode of movement that encourages children’s curiosity and exploration. Indoors, a combination of slide-themed play equipment creates a joyful space where children can relax and enjoy themselves during breaks or while waiting for pickup.

The kindergarten’s exterior is sleek and modern, featuring environmentally friendly sand-yellow and off-white crystal stone coatings. Natural wood is used for window frames and sunshade grilles, adding a warm, delicate texture to the building. Bright orange accents on balcony and stair ceilings inject energy and vitality through bold color. The façade’s modular decorative lines reflect the building’s overall geometric logic, combining warmth, liveliness, and precision into a harmonious whole.

Inside, the color palette is based on primary colors, designed to support children’s learning and cognitive development. These vivid hues also serve as visual wayfinding aids, guiding kids to different functional areas within the school. Thoughtful color choices throughout the classrooms create a vibrant and healthy environment that nurtures creativity, aesthetic skills, and a joyful childhood experience.

The kindergarten is functionally divided into two sections—south and north—connected by outdoor corridors. The southern section houses 12 classrooms with full daytime teaching and living facilities. The northern part operates more independently, offering extracurricular classes during evenings and weekends. This dual-use setup enables the kindergarten to function as a 24-hour educational facility, serving children throughout the day and night, every day of the week.
