The Yunzhiyuan Tourist Service Building is situated within Yunzhiyuan, a community park located in the southern part of Gaoxin Park, Nanshan District, Shenzhen. Surrounded by clusters of high-rise office buildings, the building serves park visitors by offering horizontally extended open spaces. In April 2021, the architect was commissioned to design a small facility that would complement the existing park landscape and cater to visitor needs. Due to a tight project timeline and the desire to minimize construction impact on the nearby office park, a steel structure was chosen for rapid assembly. The building was completed and officially opened in December 2021.

The architectural concept reflects the identity of a technology innovation community park, with the theme of “cloud” and a response to the site’s existing circular geometric landscape elements. The architect designed a continuous, cloud-shaped roof that connects scattered amenities such as book bars, restrooms, outdoor seating, and gardens along the circular slow track. This design offers visitors both indoor and outdoor spaces to rest, providing shade and shelter from sun and rain. The elegant curved eaves frame varying views of the sky, trees, clouds, and cityscape.

The curved eaves cast a dynamic circle of light and shadow across the landscape walls and ground, shifting continuously with the movement of sunlight to create a temporal play of light and darkness. Viewed from the surrounding high-rise buildings, the structure resembles a soft, white cloud floating among trees, flowers, and greenery—establishing an engaging dialogue between architecture and nature.

The building’s interior features two main areas: a book bar and a public restroom. The book bar faces the park’s landscape through large transparent French windows, offering a quiet retreat for passersby to relax and engage in leisure activities amid the warm texture of wood veneer. Both indoor and outdoor roofs employ metal panels in matching colors with embedded lighting, creating a seamless spatial experience. Custom details such as dining tables and door handles carry the thematic “cloud” design.

The restroom interior is designed with bright colors and modern materials, providing visitors a stylish and transparent spatial experience. The exterior walls feature an exposed white stone finish with a brushed texture, while the interior walls and floors use terrazzo materials with natural stone patterns, blending modern amenities with natural textures.

In the outdoor garden area, digital design tools were used to craft the undulating seating landscape of Yunlang Garden, creating a popular terrain garden especially favored by families with children. Since the completion of the Yunzhiyuan Tourist Service Building, the book bar and outdoor corridor have become a favorite spot for lunch and tea among local office workers. The area also hosts activities such as art sketching and baking workshops, gradually establishing itself as a vibrant community gathering place.
