Once a change occurs, confirmation and signatures from three parties are required to finalize the engineering cost settlement. Currently, the management of engineering changes faces several challenges:
(1) Delays in preparing change documentation can postpone claim submissions, potentially invalidating the changes;
(2) Most changes are documented on paper and rely heavily on 2D drawings, making it difficult to visually compare before and after states. Additionally, calculating the quantities for changed and related parts is complex, increasing the risk of omissions and underestimations;
(3) Numerous change materials and extended construction periods make it easy to overlook changes during the final settlement if not properly managed.

BIM-based change management addresses these issues effectively and offers several advantages:
(1) Using BIM, changes can be applied directly to the Guanglian Da civil engineering calculation model, enabling clear visual presentations for owners and supervisors during change reviews;
(2) BIM software automatically calculates detailed modifications in methods, components, attributes, and formulas related to the changed parts and their associated elements. It also generates comprehensive reports, significantly improving the accuracy, logic, and efficiency of quantity calculations;
(3) When updating the model, detailed information such as the change name, date, location, proposing unit, and preparer can be recorded. Supporting documents like confirmed change orders and updated drawings can be uploaded for future settlement. The updated models can be re-imported into the Guanglian Da BIM5D platform, where previously linked progress and cost data are automatically re-associated. Guanglian Da BIM5D also supports change storage management, allowing easy retrieval during later settlements. The BIM5D data package can be saved electronically for convenient access and analysis in future projects;
(4) BIM-based change management offers innovative solutions for construction change oversight. Its 3D visualization capability provides an intuitive platform for reviewing changes, while its digital information management ensures accurate, timely quantity updates for settlements. Furthermore, it securely stores critical change data for construction teams.
