The project site is located in a typical rural quadrangle courtyard building near Beijing, surrounded by mountains on both sides. The mountainsides are covered with dense wild forests, creating a serene natural backdrop.

Our design preserves the original texture of the quadrangle courtyard by uniting the four houses with an expansive slab roof. Additionally, the eaves of each house are extended, allowing people to sit beneath them and experience the changing seasons comfortably.

Adjacent to the courtyard’s swimming pool is a long staircase that links the courtyard to the roof. One quarter of the pool lies beneath the staircase, creating an engaging dialogue between these two elements. Visitors ascend the staircase, passing by the pool, experiencing a dynamic change in pace along the way.

The small square structure on the roof serves two main purposes:
1: It acts as a skylight, bringing natural sunlight into the interior spaces.
2: It provides a cozy nook for guests to listen to music and enjoy the surrounding views.

The wild forests flanking the east and south sides of the roof seamlessly blend into the mountainside, offering a tranquil environment for swimming and relaxation.
